FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

SENDING NATIVE STUDENTS TO SPAIN & MOROCCO KYLE, SD, FEBRUARY 25, 2012: This May, we will take ten Little Wound High School students on a 10-day educational tour of Spain, culminating in a trip across the Mediterranean to visit Morocco. All of the students on this trip are academically successful and are all on track to attend college. The entire community is excited about this trip. Ten students will see Europe, but every Little Wound student will be motivated to see their own potential. Ten young people will visit Africa, but every administrator will know that their students, too, are capable of seeing the world and any other goal they set for themselves. We hope to inspire our community by showing that our model students can experience culture and life outside Pine Ridge reservation, located in Shannon County, the third poorest in the United States ($6,286 per capita income).
To make this life-changing trip possible, we must raise $30,000 through this campaign. We are working to secure donations from local organizations and tribal governments across the country, but we need your help if we are to achieve our goal. 100% of the money raised during this campaign will be used to cover the costs of this trip, including international travel, ground transportation, food & lodging, museum & site entrance fees, and transportation to Morocco.
We do not believe that a students’ heritage or zip code should have anything to do with his or her ability to attend college or see the world. We have already raised about $10,000 selling concessions at sports events and catering small gatherings, and we have an ambitious calendar of fundraising events scheduled for the winter and spring.
With your help, we will exceed our fundraising goals. Please help us make this trip a reality!

About Little Wound High School: At Little Wound High School, 100% of students receive free lunch and 100% are American Indian/Native American. Despite what you may have read or heard about our community, our students are accomplishing amazing things. Among the 10 students participating in this trip, one is a three-sport varsity athlete, secretary of the student council, and the fourth-ranked student in the junior class. Two of our sophomores are best friends who are competing to be the valedictorian in two years (they are currently first and second in their class with GPAs over 3.9). We have two competitive powwow dancers in our group; both are champions.
