(NEW YORK) -- The Oneida Indian Nation and the City of Sherrill have ended
their lengthy legal battle by reaching an agreement whereby the Nation will
pay city property taxes and follow all city codes.

The U.S. Supreme Court on Monday
refused to reconsider its ruling that Oneida Indian Nation land in Sherrill
can be taxed. The court ruled 8-1 March 29 that the nation can't claim
sovereignty on land that left tribal possession nearly 200 years ago. Nation
lawyers had asked the court in April to reconsider
